Two sitting days instead of three
The Dáil will not sit next Wednesday, 14 October, the day of a nationwide public sector strike over pay. The Dáil Business Committee agreed a revised schedule on Saturday afternoon, with the House sitting only on Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 October. Wednesday’s committee and Seanad business is cancelled as well. RTÉ reported that the revised schedule was tabled by the Government Chief Whip, Mary Butler.
Before the change, the Government had provisionally scheduled a full day of Dáil business for Wednesday. That depended on enough Leinster House staff being available, The Irish Times reported. RTÉ reported that the votes due on Wednesday would move to Tuesday, and The Journal called that expected. The Irish Times and the Irish Examiner did not mention the votes.
The official Dáil record shows the House was taking Budget 2027 business on Thursday 8 October, two days after the Budget was delivered.
