Second Stage resumed in the Dáil
Dáil Éireann resumed Second Stage of the Home Heating Oil (Emergency Mineral Oil Tax Reduction) Bill 2026 on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, a Private Members' Bill originating in Dáil Éireann. The Bill provides for a temporary reduction of mineral oil tax on home heating oil (kerosene used other than as a propellent) to alleviate cost of living pressures, and for extension of such reductions by order of the Minister for Finance.
An Ceann Comhairle opened the sitting by explaining the postponed division: 'I must now deal with a postponed division relating to Second Stage of the Home Heating Oil (Emergency Mineral Oil Tax Reduction) Bill 2026, taken on 22 September 2026. On the question, 'That the amendment to the motion now be agreed to' , a division was claimed and in accordance with Standing Order 85(2), that division must be taken now.'
