Written questions on rail network raised in Dáil Éireann
On Thursday, 24 September 2026, Dáil Éireann recorded a set of written parliamentary questions on the subject of the rail network, with twenty-two deputies listed as having asked questions on the topic.
One entry, Question 225, recorded Deputy Naoise Ó Cearúil asking the Minister for Transport about progress by the National Transport Authority and Iarnród Éireann on real-time disruption information through the Irish Rail app, and when passengers could expect enhanced disruption notifications.
In another answer on the record, the Minister for Transport set out the departmental position: the Minister stated that responsibility for policy and overall funding of public transport sits with the Minister, while the operation, maintenance and renewal of the rail network and stations, including level crossings, is a matter for Iarnród Éireann in the first instance.
On DART+ West, the Minister for Transport's answer stated that the project will provide a transformational investment in the electrified rail network, doubling capacity at peak hours and extending DART services from the City Centre to M3 Parkway and Kilcock. The same answer noted that, subject to the necessary approvals, tender documentation for DART+ West is expected to be issued before the end of the year, with early work on the line commencing before the end of 2027 and main works commencing in 2028. It also noted Iarnród Éireann's public consultation prior to and as part of the Railway Order process, and that the company will continue to engage with local communities as the project progresses towards construction, including on the timing, phasing and potential impacts of level crossing replacement works.
