Ten TDs Submit Road Safety Questions in the Dáil
On 24 September 2026, ten members of the 34th Dáil submitted parliamentary questions on road safety. The participants recorded as asking questions were Aindrias Moynihan, Brian Stanley, Ciarán Ahern, Claire Kerrane, Darren O'Rourke, Michael Cahill, Michael Murphy, Noel McCarthy, Seán Kyne, and Shane Moynihan.
The official Oireachtas record covers the questions and Government replies across a series of written question sections published for that day. One recorded question, from Deputy Seán Kyne to the Minister for Transport, concerned funding to local authorities for traffic cams and pedestrian crossings in rural towns and villages, and the safety problem of high speeds for pedestrians and vulnerable road users.
The Minister of State at the Department of Transport answered on behalf of the Government, setting out the Road Safety Strategy 2021 to 2030, speed limit reform, local road funding and national roads responsibilities. The reply stated: 'Government is committed to reducing road deaths and creating safer roads for everyone in Ireland. Our Road Safety Strategy 2021 to 2030 has the primary aim of reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries by half by 2030 and to achieve zero deaths or serious injuries by 2050.'
No division or vote was taken, as the outcome record for this event is null. The questions were answered in writing rather than decided by a counted vote.
