Cabinet agenda included housing and attendance
On the same day, RTÉ reported that Cabinet was due to consider several issues, including changes to the Repair and Lease Scheme, new rules allowing women MEPs to delegate voting rights around pregnancy and childbirth, and school attendance. The report said Housing Minister James Browne was seeking approval to direct local authorities to prioritise studio and one-bed homes under the scheme.
The scheme provides owners of vacant properties with an interest-free loan of up to €80,000 per unit for repairs or conversion to rental standards. Renovated homes are leased to a local authority or an Approved Housing Body for social housing, with the loan repaid as an offset on the lease payment. RTÉ reported that one-bed units made up 58% of properties delivered under the scheme in 2025.
