Most of what happens in the Dáil never reaches the people it affects. Not because it's hidden, but because nobody has time to go looking. So we built Dex to come to you.
Starting today, in open beta, Dex lives in Telegram. Link your DáilDex account once and Dex messages you when the TDs you follow vote, ask a question or speak. Reply to any update to ask what it means. Tell it to change your alerts and it does, after you confirm. It's one chat, and it's free.
Alerts and Dex, now one product
Until now, DáilDex was two things. Alerts arrived in your email; Dex, our assistant, lived on the website. Reading an alert and wanting to know more meant switching apps and explaining the context all over again.
On Telegram they are one conversation. The alert is the start of the thread, and Dex is right there in it. It already knows which vote or debate you're looking at, which TDs you follow and what you asked a minute ago. Messaging is the right home for that: it's where you already are, and a reply is the most natural way to ask "what does this mean?".
It messages you first
When a TD you follow votes, asks a parliamentary question or speaks in a debate, Dex sends you a short, dated update with a link to the official record. When a Bill or topic you watch changes, that comes too.
We were careful about volume. Updates that land close together arrive as one message. Nothing arrives between 21:00 and 08:00, Irish time. And Dex sends at most five update messages a day, however busy the Dáil gets.
Reply to ask
Every update is a conversation starter. Reply "why did they vote against it?" and Dex knows exactly which vote you mean: it explains the question that was put, what the amendment or stage actually did, and what the record shows, with numbered sources you can open.
Dex keeps to the rules it follows everywhere on DáilDex. It separates fact from explanation, says plainly when something isn't known, never guesses at anyone's motives and doesn't take sides. You can also ask anything about Irish politics without an update: "what did my TDs do this week?", "where is the Planning Bill now?".
Change things by saying so
"Only votes from now on." "Follow Holly Cairns." "Pause until Monday." "Keep an eye on the Planning Bill." Dex works out the change and shows you a Confirm button. Nothing changes until you tap it, and you get a receipt when it's done.
Who you follow and which kinds of alert you get are shared with your email alerts, so your settings stay in one place. /settings shows everything at a glance, and STOP stops every message straight away.
Built on frontier models
Dex runs on frontier AI models and DáilDex's own record of the Oireachtas: every recorded vote, question and debate we track, plus Bill stages and the official schedule. The model writes the answer; the record decides what it can say.
Your account, your rules
Telegram is linked to your DáilDex account in two steps. You press Start in Telegram, then confirm on daildex.com that the Telegram name shown is yours, so a forwarded link can't attach someone else's account. Each question uses one of your daily Dex messages, the same as on the website.
Bot chats on Telegram aren't end-to-end encrypted, so don't send anything private. Messages are processed by DáilDex, Telegram and the AI model that writes Dex's answers. We keep recent messages for 30 days so Dex can follow the conversation, then delete them. Unlinking or deleting your account removes the link.
