Home/Dex Study/Past paper question patterns with Exam X-ray

Dex Study · Exam X-ray

See what past papers have actually asked.

Upload past papers and marking schemes you already have. Exam X-ray pulls out the questions and shows how often each topic has come up. It is history, not a prediction.

Try Exam X-ray

Updated 9 October 2026

What it extracts

  • Year, level and paper, only where the paper states them.
  • Each question's number, section and marks.
  • The command word, such as explain, discuss or evaluate.
  • The topics each question covers, with a quote copied from the paper as evidence.

How to use it well

  1. Add papers you already haveUse PDFs with selectable text. Download past papers from examinations.ie.
  2. Sort the heat mapView topics by most questions, most recent, highest average marks or A to Z.
  3. Check the extractionReview and correct any row the extraction got wrong. Question banks are only as good as the paper text.
  4. Practise the weak spotsTurn topics you have neglected into a practice paper or revision cards.

An honest limit

A topic that has not come up for years is not 'due', and one that comes up often is not guaranteed. Exam X-ray shows history only. Use it to understand the style of questions, not to skip topics.

We noticed you're visiting from outside Ireland. A TD (Teachta Dála) is a member of Ireland's lower house of parliament—the closest equivalent to an MP. A Senator sits in Seanad Éireann, the upper house. You can still use DáilDex to follow either and receive the same alerts. Shareable explainer
