We noticed you're visiting from outside Ireland. A TD (Teachta Dála) is a member of Ireland's lower house of parliament—the closest equivalent to an MP. A Senator sits in Seanad Éireann, the upper house. You can still use DáilDex to follow either and receive the same alerts. Shareable explainer

Sources and coverage

Every figure on these pages comes from an official publication. This page shows what is published, when it was last checked, and what is missing.

Source status

A successful check never changes a reporting date. The latest publication date moves only when a source publishes something new.

Some sources, such as the Fiscal Monitor, are read from a link supplied by a person, because the publisher blocks automated page requests. Their figures stay unpublished until checked.

What each label means

Every major figure carries one of these labels, so reported spending is never mistaken for an allocation or a forecast.

  • Actual spending or receipts reported for the stated period.

  • An initial result that may be revised.

  • Expenditure from audited annual accounts.

  • Funding authorised or provided for. It is not spending so far.

  • Expected future receipts or spending.

  • The published monthly pattern that actual spending or receipts are compared with.

  • A procurement commitment. It is not a payment.

  • An order recorded by the publishing body. Payment may not have been made.

  • A confirmed payment.

  • A published payment to a member or party leader.

Rules DáilDex follows

  • Year to date and monthlyFiscal Monitor figures run from 1 January. DáilDex never adds them to single-month figures.
  • Gross and netGross voted expenditure includes spending financed by appropriations-in-aid. Net does not. They are kept apart.
  • Exchequer and general governmentThe Exchequer’s cash series and the Central Statistics Office’s general government accounts cover different scopes on different accounting bases. They are not merged into one balance.
  • Missing is not zeroIf a source gives no figure, DáilDex shows that it is missing.
  • Transfers of functionsWhen responsibilities move between departments, a department’s Votes change. DáilDex marks the break instead of drawing an unbroken trend.
  • ProcurementContract awards, purchase orders and payments are different things. They will not be added to departmental expenditure, which may already include them. Procurement is planned for a later release.
  • Above and below profileA figure below profile can reflect timing or delayed delivery as well as savings. DáilDex does not read it as efficiency.
  • Annual seriesIn the Databank series the latest year is the Revised Estimate and earlier years are outturn. Audited figures come from the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Appropriation Accounts.
  • CorrectionsWhen a source revises a figure, DáilDex keeps the earlier value and the source version that replaced it.

What is not covered yet

Procurement, local authorities, EU funds, members’ allowances, debt and State fund values, audited Appropriation Account tables and party account figures are not yet published here. Committee operating costs are not shown because no standard public dataset of them has been found. Central-government figures are not a record of every public body’s transactions.
